As we head into the second month of our school year during the COVID-19 pandemic, I would like to thank all the families for their patience and understanding with the morning screening process, our hours of operation, transitioning children into new classrooms and continuing to have confidence and trust in our program. Our staff has worked extremely hard to make your child’s educational experience a rewarding one, while maintaining their health and safety. Please let us know if there are any questions you may have as we continue to navigate through this pandemic.
During Fire Prevention Week (October 4-10), all classes will be learning what to do in the case of a fire at home and at school. Routine fire drills will be practiced at this time. A visit by the Jefferson Fire House, with their fire engines, may happen this week if their schedule permits.
JCDS will be resuming our monthly staff meeting on Monday, October 5th. The meeting will be held at 5:30pm and all children need to be picked up by then.
Individual Child Reports (ICR) will be coming out around October 15th. The ICR lets you see how your child is progressing over multiple checkpoint periods. It helps teachers plan for your child and easily identify areas where he/she may need additional support. If you would like to set up a parent/teacher conference to discuss your children’s progress, please see your teacher or Larry Brown. Please remember that we need the cover sheet signed and returned back to school.
Reading to children is a very important daily school activity that has lifelong learning benefits. Annually, the Norristown Bookmobile would visit JCDS on a monthly basis. This has been the case for over 20 years. Unfortunately, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the bookmobile has suspended reading to children, either in the bookmobile or coming inside JCDS. What the bookmobile will be doing is dropping off 50 books each month that we will be able to read to the children. We thank the bookmobile for continuing with their efforts to provide reading to young children.
For those students who celebrate the tradition of Halloween, class costume parades will be Wednesday, October 28th at 3:00PM. This will be for all children attending that day. Parents will be able to attend the parade, following social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. Further details will follow on times and format.
Our JCDS Spirit Week will be October 26th – October 30th. During this week, we will have a different theme for each day and the children can come to school dressed according to the theme for that day. More details will be forth coming on the themes.
