October 2019 Newsletter
With our new curriculum, Mother Goose Time, all classes will have the theme of Down On The Farm. Each week will have a different theme relating to the farm, farm animals and food we get from a farm. Your teacher’s newsletter for the month will have more specifics on what activities are planned for the month.
On Wednesday, October 2nd, the Jefferson Fire House will have one of their firemen come to JCDS and talk about Fire safety. This will be a prelude to Fire Prevention Week. During Fire Prevention Week (October 6-12), all classes will be learning what to do in the case of a fire at home and at school. Routine fire drills will be practiced at this time. A visit by the Jefferson Fire House, with their fire engines, may happen this week if their schedule permits.
JCDS will be closing at 5:30PM on Monday, October 7th for our monthly staff meeting. Thank you for your cooperation with the early closing time.
Individual Child Reports (ICR) will be coming out around October 15th. The ICR lets you see how your child is progressing over multiple checkpoint periods. It helps teachers plan for your child and easily identify areas where he/she may need additional support. If you would like to set up a parent/teacher conference to discuss your children’s progress, please see your teacher or Larry Brown. Please remember that we need the cover sheet signed and returned back to school.
A NEW DAY and TIME. The Norristown Bookmobile will now be coming to visit JCDS on the first Monday of the month, from 10:45 - 11:15am. Our 3 year-old preschool and Ms. Yacono’s classes will attend together.
We are continuing to have the musical program Rhythm Babies visit JCDS on a new day (Wednesday) at 3:00pm for Ms. Yacono’s, 3 year-old preschool, the toddler, and the pretoddler classes. Each group has the program once a month. With every class, your child will broaden their scope of different nursery rhymes and rhythm chants, strengthening their ability to understand the differences between talking and singing.
For those students who celebrate the tradition of Halloween, class costume parades will be Wednesday, October 30th. This will be for all children attending that day. Further details will follow on times and format.
Our JCDS Spirit Week will be October 28th – November 1st. During that week, we will have a different theme for each day for the children to come to school dressed in something fun. More details will be forth coming on the themes.
