May 2019

Dear Parent(s),

Hard to believe Spring has been with us for a month already. The monthly theme for Ms. Yacono and Miss Hoy’s classes will be “The World Around Us”, while the toddlers and pre-toddlers have a theme around special days in May, such as Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day and Mother’s Day (May 12th for all our dads). Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5 - 11, with Teacher Appreciation Day on Tuesday, May 7th.

On Tuesday, May 7th, JCDS will have Muffins with Mom beginning at 9:00am and ending at 10:00am in the morning. We are encouraging Moms to spend some time with their child in their classroom and enjoy some muffins with them. Please see your child’s teacher if you would like to come at a different time in the morning.

Individual Child Reports (ICR) will be issued in mid-May.  All Individual Child Reports must have the cover sheet signed and returned back to school by Friday, May 24th.  This will be the last ICR for the school year, so any parent interested in discussing their child’s Individual Child Report may set up a convenient time with their child’s teacher.

Our Family Fun Day will be Saturday, June 15th (rain date is Sunday, June 16th). In addition to being an event for families, we are also using this day as a fundraising event. If anyone has a special skill they would like to volunteer for, that would be wonderful. We are also looking for products and/or services that could be raffled off as gift baskets. Tickets are now on sale for the event.

We would like to thank all the parents and grandparents that came to read, play, or have lunch with the children during the Week of the Young Child (WOYC). Your support is greatly appreciated. The children enjoy it very much when a special person comes to their school and reads to them During the month of April in conjunction with the WOYC, JCDS participated in Pennsylvania’s One Book, Every Young Child program. For the 2019 program, we read the book Not A Box by Antoinette Portis.

The Rhythm Babies music program continues to provide music for our Pre-K, 3’s, toddler, and pretoddler classrooms. This program offers weekly themed music and movement classes for young children. Miss Teresa comes to JCDS on Thursday mornings at 9:30am.

We are continuing our parent referral program. Parents that refer another family to the school will receive one FREE WEEK OF TUITION for each enrolled family. We do have some openings, so spread the word.

Our monthly staff meeting will be Monday, May 20th. We will be closing at 5:30PM. We will be doing our annual Fire Safety Training. Also, if you have not turned in your JCDS survey from last month, we can still take them. Your feedback is important to us. Another copy of the survey is attached for your convenience.

For those families attending JCDS through the summer, we would like to know your vacation plans, so we can begin planning our staff’s vacation plans and school summer events. Attached is a form to be completed for your vacation plans. Please return the form as soon as possible, if you know your vacation schedule at this time.

The children are spending more time outside with the warmer weather. We recommend children wear sneakers daily, as sneakers are the safest and best footwear for running and outdoor play. As a reminder with being outdoors, the possibility of insect bites and ticks should be checked by parents daily. Also, please provide sunscreen if you feel your child needs it. Parents will need to complete the Medication Log form if sunscreen is to be applied by JCDS, in compliance with our new Medication Administration Procedures policy.

Our school year will end June 14th, with our summer program beginning the following Monday on June 17th.

The school will be closed on Monday, May 27th for the observance of Memorial Day, and Thursday, July 4th for the observance of Independence Day.

In closing, a special Mother’s Day poem for our wonderful mothers!!

A Mother’s Day Prayer

Give me the patience when little hands

Tug at me with ceaseless small demands.

Give me gentle words and smiling eyes,

And keep my lips from hasty, sharp replies,

Let me not in weariness, confusion or noise

Obscure my vision from life’s fleeting joys

That when in years to come my house is still,

Beautiful memories its rooms may fill.
