May 2017 Newsletter
Hard to believe Spring has been with us for a month already. The monthly theme for Ms. Yacono and Miss Hoy’s classes will be “Exploring My World”, while the toddlers and pre-toddlers have a theme of “Mother May I”. Holidays for May include Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day and Mother’s Day (May 14th for all our dads). Teacher Appreciation Week is May 1st-5th, with Teacher Appreciation Day on Tuesday, May 2nd.
On Wednesday, May 10th, JCDS will have Muffins with Mom from 9:00am– 10:00am in the morning. We are encouraging Moms to spend some time with their child in their classroom and enjoy some homemade muffins with them. Please see your child’s teacher if you would like to come at a different time in the morning.
Individual Child Reports (ICR) will be issued in mid-May. All Individual Child Reports must have the cover sheet signed and returned back to school by Monday, May 22nd. This will be the last ICR for the school year, so any parent interested in discussing their child’s Individual Child Report may set up a convenient time with their child’s teacher.
We would like to thank all the parents and grandparents that came to read, play, or have lunch with the children during the Week of the Young Child (WOYC). Your support is greatly appreciated. The children enjoy it very much when a special person comes to their school and reads to them. During the month of April in conjunction with the WOYC, JCDS participated in Pennsylvania’s One Book, Every Young Child program. For the 2017 program, we read the book Daniel Finds A Poem by Micha Archer.
The Rhythm Babies music program continues to provide music for our Pre-K, 3’s, toddler, and pretoddler classrooms. This program offers weekly themed music and movement classes for young children. Rhythm Babies comes to JCDS on Tuesday afternoons at 3:00pm.
The Mighty Tots fitness program will also continue for another year. They will be here on Wednesday mornings at 10:00am for those children attending school that day. Both the Mighty Tots and Rhythm Babies programs are made possible with grant funds JCDS receives through our participation in Keystone STARS. This makes these programs free of charge to parents.
We are continuing our parent referral program. Parents that refer another family to the school will receive one FREE WEEK OF TUITION for each enrolled family. We do have some openings, so spread the word.
Our monthly staff meeting will be Monday, May 15th. We will be closing at 5:30PM. We will be doing our annual Fire Safety Training. Also, if you have not turned in your JCDS survey from last month, we can still take them. Your feedback is important to us. Another copy of the survey is attached for your convenience.
For those families attending JCDS through the summer, we would like to know your vacation plans, so we can begin planning our staff’s vacation plans and school summer events. Attached is a form to be completed for your vacation plans. Please return the form as soon as possible, if you know your vacation schedule at this time.
The children are spending more time outside with the warmer weather. We recommend children wear sneakers daily, as sneakers are the safest and best footwear for running and outdoor play. As a reminder with being outdoors, the possibility of insect bites and ticks should be checked by parents daily. Also, please provide sunscreen if you feel your child needs it. Parents will need to complete the Medication Log form if sunscreen is to be applied by JCDS, in compliance with our new Medication Administration Procedures policy.
Our school year will end June 16th, with our summer program beginning the following Monday on June 19th.
The school will be closed on Monday, May 29th for the observance of Memorial Day, and Tuesday, July 4th for the observance of Independence Day.
In closing, a special Mother’s Day poem for our wonderful mothers!!
A Mother’s Day Prayer
Give me the patience when little hands
Tug at me with ceaseless small demands.
Give me gentle words and smiling eyes,
And keep my lips from hasty, sharp replies,
Let me not in weariness, confusion or noise
Obscure my vision from life’s fleeting joys
That when in years to come my house is still,
Beautiful memories its rooms may fill.
