September 2016 Newsletter
Welcome to a new school year at Jeffersonville Country Day School. We have an exciting school year planned with many fun and enriching activities for everyone.
Every month, our teachers will have a theme for the month. Weekly lesson plans for the respective classes will have activities relating to the monthly theme. Ms. Yacono, Miss Hoy, and Mrs. Goodwin will have a monthly newsletter that has more details on what is planned for the children. The whiteboards in Miss Hoy's and Ms. Yacono's will also summarize the weekly lesson plans.
Something new this September will be a Monarch Butterfly project. Starting with a caterpillar, we will be able to see the metamorphosis of the caterpillar into a chrysalis, then the butterfly.
We would like to thank everyone that contributed to our Alex's Lemonade Stand fundraiser. We raised over $900.00, and the children had a great time participating in all the fun activities our staff had for the day. A special "Thank you" goes to the Heffner and Scavone families for their generous contributions.
Our next four monthly Monday staff meetings are on September 12th, October 10th, November 21st, and December 12th. We will be closing at 5:30 PM on these days. Thank you for your understanding. Meeting dates are also on our website. The website address is: www.jeffersonvillecds.com.
Speaking of our website, like us on Facebook when you view photos/videos of JCDS' current events and read the latest news on Early Childhood Education.
With the start of the new school year brings several new families to JCDS. Please be aware of parents "piggy backing" into the school after you enter. Anyone authorized to enter JCDS will have a keytag. While it is polite to open a door for someone, do not do it unless you know the person. This is for the safety and security of everyone at JCDS
We have several children enrolled at JCDS with food allergies. If not treated properly or promptly, the allergies can have serious ramifications. We have always had a policy within the school that children do not share food at lunchtime (or anytime for that matter) because of the potential for an allergic reaction to food. We are requesting that parents follow this same rule anytime they are in the school.
In the event that your child will not attend school or may arrive late, we would like parents to call us so our teachers can plan accordingly.
From time to time, some children like to bring in DVD's to share with their classmates. Only those movies with a "G" rating will be shown at the school. Please check your child's DVD before sending it to school to help avoid any disappointments.
We are very excited that JCDS is continuing our active involvement in the Keystone STARS program. Keystone STARS is a voluntary quality improvement program that recognizes child care providers who exceed state health and safety licensing requirements. We are currently at the STAR 3 level.
The Keystone STARS program is under the direction of the Department of Human Services (formerly the Dept. of Public Welfare) and the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL). For more information about Keystone STARS, visit their website at www.pakeys.org.
Please feel free to let us know of any questions or concerns you may have as we start this new school year.
