October 2016 Newsletter
As the fall season begins, our theme for the toddler class will be “Spooktacular”, while Miss Hoy and Ms. Yacono’s theme will be “Fall and SafetyFun”. Other topics will include Fall colors and leaves, fire safety with Fire Prevention Month, other community helpers, and Columbus Day.
During Fire Prevention Week (October 9-15), all classes will be learning what to do in the case of a fire at home and at school. Routine fire drills will be practiced at this time. A visit by the Jefferson Fire House, with their fire engines, may happen this week if their schedule permits.
All families should have received a fall fundraiser envelope for Yankee Candle, which officially began on Monday, September 26th. Our goal is to raise funds for educational and learning materials for all of our classrooms. Since there is no tax on candles ordered through the fundraiser, prices should be cheaper than buying them in a store. Candles make wonderful holiday gifts. Orders are due on Tuesday, October 11th. Thank you for your support.
JCDS will be closing at 5:30PM on Monday, October 10th for our monthly staff meeting. Thank you for your cooperation with the early closing time.
Individual Child Reports (ICR) will be coming out around October 15th. The ICR lets you see how your child is progressing over multiple checkpoint periods. It helps teachers plan for your child and easily identify areas where he/she may need additional support. If you would like to set up a parent/teacher conference to discuss your children’s progress, please see your teacher or Larry Brown.
A NEW DAY and TIME. The Norristown Bookmobile will now be coming to visit JCDS every second Friday of the month. Ms. Yacono’s class will attend from 2:00 to 2:30pm. Miss Hoy’s class will attend from 2:30 to 3:00pm
On Friday, October 21st, Tooth Buddy Tales returns to JCDS at 9:30am for their presentation on dental hygiene. The program educates the children on good foods to eat, yucky sweet treats to avoid and how to brush your teeth.
For those students who celebrate the tradition of Halloween, class costume parades will be Friday, October 28th. This will be for all children attending that day. Further details will follow on times and format.
Our JCDS Spirit Week will be October 24th – 28th. During that week, we will have a different theme for each day for the children to come to school dressed in something fun. More details will be forth coming on the themes.
We are continuing to have the musical program Rhythm Babies visit JCDS on Tuesday afternoons at 3:00pm for Ms. Yacono’s, Miss Hoy’s, the toddler, and the pretoddler classes. Each group has the program once a month. With every class, your child will broaden their scope of different nursery rhymes and rhythm chants, strengthening their ability to understand the differences between talking and singing.
