Newsletter for September 2012

Dear Parent(s),

Welcome to a new school year at Jeffersonville Country Day School. We have an exciting school year planned with many fun and enriching activities for everyone.

September’s theme for the month is Everyday Places and Routines. The children will become familiar and comfortable with school routines, learning how to make new friends, and learning new classroom rules. Other topics will include playground and school safety rules, healthy habits, and the introduction of letters, numbers, colors, and shapes.

On Wednesday, September 28th, a field trip to the Crayola Crayon Factory is scheduled for Ms. Yacono’s class and Miss Alley’s afternoon class (12:15pm – 2:45pm). This will be a long field trip, and chaperones will be needed. The approximate timeline is 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Further details will follow. If you are interested in chaperoning, please mark your calendar and contact Larry Brown or send us a message on the website.

Our next four monthly Monday staff meetings are on September 12th, October 10th, November 7th, and December 5th. We will be closing at 5:30 PM on these days. Thank you for your understanding. Meeting dates are also on our website. The website address is: www.jeffersonvillecds.com/news.

Speaking of our website, JCDS has a brand new website that has many new enhancements, links, and a Facebook page. Use the website to check out our programs, the school calendar of events, school closing information or referring a friend, and registration & enrollment information.

We have several children enrolled at JCDS with food allergies. If not treated properly or promptly, the allergies can have serious ramifications. We have always had a policy within the school that children do not share food at lunchtime (or anytime for that matter) because of the potential for an allergic reaction to food. We are requesting that parents follow this same rule anytime they are in the school.

In the event that your child will not attend school or may arrive late, we would like parents to call us so our teachers can plan accordingly. Our number is (610) 539-7499

From time to time, some children like to bring in videos/DVD’s to share with their classmates. Only those videos with a “G” rating will be shown at the school. Please check your child’s video before sending it to school to help avoid any disappointments.

We are very excited that JCDS is continuing our active involvement in the Keystone STARS program. Keystone STARS is a voluntary quality improvement program that recognizes child care providers who exceed state health and safety licensing requirements. We are currently at the STAR 3 level.Preschoolers in Keystone STAR 3 and 4 programs make impressive progress, ready for kindergarten

The Keystone STARS program is under the direction of the Department of Welfare and OCDEL. For more information about Keystone STARS, visit their website at www.pakeys.org.

Please feel free to let us know of any questions or concerns you may have as we start this new school year. You can send us a message through the website, give us a call, or stop by the school. Directions to the school can be found on the website directions page.
